Great time as always. Pictures came out great this year, the scenery was ridiculous out in the forest. Absolutely beautiful day out.

New Camera

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

After close to 40,000 pictures and battling the elements during both mountain bike races and rally car races, my Nikon D80 camera has finally had it. It still works but gets quirky sometimes and the focusing mechanism of the d80 isn’t up to speed with the more advanced lenses I have been using. As a result I’ve been ruining pictures more and more often. I got my replacement this week, a Nikon D700. Being full frame my current lenses aren’t exactly fully compatible with this camera body. If I use my normal lens (18-200VR) the camera only shoots in 5 megapixel mode. Which is fine, but isn’t exactly using my new camera to it’s fullest. Hopefully I will be obtaining full frame FX lenses soon. I did pick up a fixed 50mmf/2.8 which works great but can only zoom as fast as I can run :)

I’m trying to obtain a 70-200f/2.8 for the bike races, but I also need a general walking about lens, generally the FX lenses are very professional and are metal, and FULL of glass. They are very large and very heavy. Hopefully I can find something for everyday shooting like my 18-200 but in full frame.  There are a few choices, so I’ll have to play with some and figure out what I need. I’ll update when I get the new hardware.

Here’s my new camera and temporary lens, see you at Kittatinny!:
